The DisplayDigits attribute controls the format of numeric values on screens and in reports:

Zero or a positive number indicates the number of digits to display to the right of the decimal point.

A negative number indicates the number of significant digits to display. In this case, the absolute value of DisplayDigits is the number of significant digits.
The default value of DisplayDigits is -5. The minimum value is -20, and the maximum is 10.
The following table shows how a value of 23.45 would appear on the screen for different values of DisplayDigits:
