Add a new unit category

Choose a new unit category

To add a unit category, press the Add Unit Category button . The right hand side of the dialog will be reconfigured to allow you to enter information about the new unit category.

choose a name and base unit for the unit category

Name the unit category in the name box on the right hand side of the Unit Manager (for example, Acceleration).

The Native Unit check box, which may not be modified in the standard versions of Process Model Manager Reference Manual, is checked to indicate system-defined units, and unchecked for user-defined units.

Optionally, enter a description for the unit category (e.g. This is the rate of change of velocity).

Each unit category must have a Base Unit, a unit for that category which is used as the primary measurement unit for calculations dealing with that unit category. Choose a unit name and symbol for the base unit (e.g. gravity and g).

At this stage, the right side configuration will appear as follows:

At this stage, you need to complete the definition of the base unit. Press the Apply button to move on to the next step.

Define the base unit

  1. Double click on the new unit category in the left hand side of the Unit Manager. The base unit will be indicated by a base unit icon

  2. Select the base unit. This will reconfigure the right hand side of the editor to allow information about the base unit to be edited.

  3. You may change the name or symbol of the base unit by entering new choices in the Unit Name and Unit Symbol boxes.

    Optionally, enter a description of the unit (e.g. The standard gravity at the Earth's surface)

  4. Pressing Apply will update the left hand side to show the chosen name for the base unit.
