Define data sets as manual or calculated

If the Data Set is defined as Calculated the Feed Steam and Crude from which data is calculated must be defined. To define a Data Set as calculated:

1. Select Calculated as the Type in the Data Set dialog.

2. Select the Feed Stream from which data is calculated - this must be one of the inputs to the topology.

3. Add the assay(s) which will be used to calculate the stream properties.

4. Define the Blend Using method and Ratios for the assays when the stream is defined by a blend.

5. Enter a tag to refer to the assay or blend in the output.

Calculated Data Sets properties are calculated by using the process unit models defined in the Topology to determine the property values for the final processed streams which are then fitted during regression. In order to calcualte the stream properties the process unit model feed must be defined in terms of a crude diet. This diet can be a single crude, or a blend of crudes. The diet is defined in the Feed section.

To define the calculated feed:

6. Click Add to add a new assay to the blend list.

7. The Select Crudes dialog opens:

   

8. Filter the list of crudes via the Filter combo box. You can filter in three ways:

   • Predefined filter: Click an entry next to a funnel icon () in the top part of the Filter combo box to display only the corresponding crudes. If you have created any sets (Set Manager) these are listed in this section.

   • Data set: Exclude groups of crudes by clearing check boxes in the Data Sets list shown at the bottom of the Filter combo box.

   • Crude name: Type a few letters in the Filter box and press Enter to only show crudes with names starting by your entered text. Use an asterisk * to match any number of characters, including none. For example, enter *ra* to match all crudes with ra anywhere in their names.

   

9. If adding an assay to a blend, define the Ratio for the assay in the blend. Other options are available for working with the Blend List:

10. click the Edit button to change the selected assay to a different assay

11. click the Remove button to delete the selected assay from the Blend List.

Tip: Embed Assays in Cases: When adding calculated Data Sets you must define the assays with which the Data Set is associated. The cut property for these assays is embedded within the Base + Delta Case and will not change. If the assay is updated by another user in the future a warning dialog will show that an update is available. It is possible to choose to update the embedded assay, and the new updated assay will instead be embedded within the Case, replacing the older version.
