Linking to a geometry feature layer that is not publicly available

If your feature layer lacks geometry information, and you want to augment your feature layer by linking to an existing feature layer that does contain geometry information, but that feature layer is not publicly shared, follow the instructions in this topic.

To link a feature layer that is not publicly shared, you should first ensure that the feature layer is shared with your account on ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS.

Next, you create an application that is tied to your ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS account, register the application, and then note the App ID that is generated. The App ID becomes a shorthand reference to your account credentials that you use when configuring a reference to a geometry feature layer URL that is not publicly shared.

Note: Creating an application ID (App ID) that is tied to your ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS account is a one-time procedure. If you have already created an application and have an App ID, you can reuse that same App ID with multiple layer configurations.

The steps in this topic describe how to create and register an application that is associated with your ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS.

  1. Log in to ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS and click the My Content tab.

  2. Select Add Item > An application

    The Application screen displays.

  3. In the Type section, click the Web Mapping radio button.

  4. In the URL field, enter the URL that is associated with your PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS.

    Use the following format:

    https://<fqdn>:<port>

  5. In the Title field, enter a title for the application.

You can leave the default values in the other fields: Purpose: Ready To Use, API: Javascript.

  6. Click ADD ITEM when finished.

  7. Select the application you just created by clicking it and then select the Settings tab.

  8. Click Register.

    The Register screen displays.

  9. In Redirect URI edit box, enter a URL with the following format:

    https://Esri_Integrator_fqdn:port/api/configuration/utilities/oauthlogin

Note: You must include the port in the redirect URI, even if you installed the Integrator on the default port 443.

When finished, click Add, then click Register.

You should make a note of the App ID that is generated. Copy the App ID and paste it into the App ID field in PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS.

You have now prepared your environment to access secured feature layers that are shared with your ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS account.
