Note: Upgrading from PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS 2017 automatically to 2017 SP1 is not supported. See the upgrade instructions in the Release Notes for PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS 2017 SP1.

Note: Upgrading from PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS 2014 or PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS 2014 SP1 to PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS 2017 SP1 is not supported.

You might experience one of several scenarios when upgrading from PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS 2015 to PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS 2017 SP1. Which scenario you encounter depends upon how you had previously deployed the Integrator.

Previous releases included separate Data Relay and Application Server components. The current release combines the functionality of both components into a single installation and application.

If you had installed a previous release, you might have deployed both the 2015 Application Server and 2015 Data Relay onto the same computer or you might have deployed them on separate computers. The details below cover all possible upgrade scenarios depending upon how you had deployed the 2015 integrator.

Tip: Ensure you back up your SQL database before performing the upgrade.

Each of the various scenarios is described below, along with steps to follow for upgrading the software:

  • Install the new software on the previous computer where both the Application Server and the Data Relay were installed.

The installation program will recognize that an upgrade is taking place and will capture the SQL server and SQL database details from the 2015 installation and automatically populate those details into the 2017 SP1 version. The installer will uninstall the 2015 Application Server but will not uninstall the 2015 Data Relay. See Uninstall the Data Relay. Then, follow the instructions in How to install PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS.

  • Install on the previous computer where only the Application Server (and not the Data Relay) was installed.

The installation program will recognize that an upgrade is taking place and will capture the SQL server and SQL database details from the 2015 installation and automatically populate those details into the 2017 SP1 version. The installer will uninstall the 2015 Application Server as part of the upgrade process. Follow the instructions in How to install PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS.

Also remember to manually uninstall the Data Relay from the computer on which it is installed. See Uninstall the Data Relay for more information.

  • Install on the previous computer where only the Data Relay (and not the Application Server) was installed.

In this case, the installation program will not recognize that an upgrade is taking place and will not uninstall the 2015 Data Relay. You must uninstall the Data Relay manually. See Uninstall the Data Relay for more information. Then, follow the instructions in How to install PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS.

Also remember to manually uninstall the Application Server from the computer on which it is installed. See Uninstall the application server for more information.

  • Install on a brand new computer.

During the installation, you can specify the SQL server and SQL database details from the 2015 installation. For information about installing, see How to install PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS.

The 2017 SP1 version provides a Migration Utility that makes it easy to convert existing ArcGIS GeoEvent server inputs into the proper format for the 2017 SP1 version. If you reference an SQL configuration database that was created by the 2015 version during the installation of the 2017 SP1 version, then you should familiarize yourself with the running the Migration Utility. See Run the Migration Utility for details. You must install PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS 2017 SP1 before running the migration utility.
