You must install PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS on a computer that has access to a Microsoft SQL Server. PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS may authenticate with the SQL Server either via Windows Authentication or legacy SQL Authentication. During installation, you will have the opportunity to validate the connection and authentication.

  1. Ensure you have met all of the prerequisites listed in: Phase 1: Prepare to install PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS.

Note: To install PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS software, you must have administrator rights on the computer.

  2. Download the latest version of PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS from Tech support.

  3. As administrator, run the downloaded file.

The file is a self-extracting archive that contains the installation program and support files.

  4. At the PI Integrator for Esri ArgGIS 2017 SP1 Self-Extracting Executable screen, click OK to accept the default location where the setup files will be extracted, or enter a new extraction path and click OK.

  5. At the PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS 2017 SP1 Welcome screen, click OK.

The PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS 2017 SP1 Welcome screen displays the software modules that are required to run PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS and the installation status of each module.

  6. At the PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS 2017 SP1 setup screen, click Next.

  7. In the Destination Folder screen, you can either enter the path for the installation files or accept the default location and then click Next.

You can also click Change to modify the installation path.

  8. Enter the name of the SQL Server on which PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS will store application data.

In the Server Instance field, enter the name and location of the SQL Server. Use "." to indicate localhost. For example, if your SQL Server instance is named SQLExpress and is located on the same computer you are running the installation on, you can specify:

    .\SQLExpress

The Database Name field indicates the name of the database on the SQL Server that is used to store information from PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS. By default, the installation software fills in the Database Name field with: pigeoportal. If this is a new installation, OSIsoft recommends using the default name. Do not use the name of an existing database if this is a new installation.

If this is a re-installation or an installation of a new version of the product and you want to re-use the database from your previous installation, then enter the name of that database instead.

  9. After entering the server instance and database name, click Validate to verify that your database credentials are valid. Click OK on the message window indicating successful connection, then click Next.

  10. On the Service Account screen, select the service account under which the installed Windows service will operate. Choose one of the following:

    • Choose The default account for this service to select a virtual account for the Integrator's Windows service. By selecting this option, the default account is:

      NT SERVICE\pigeointegrator

    • Choose A custom account to specify a specific account. Choosing this option requires you to enter the user ID and password for that account. After entering your credentials, validate that your account credentials are correct by clicking Validate.

Be sure you understand the security ramifications for the authentication method you choose. See Security considerations under Phase 1: Prepare to install PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS for information.

  11. Click Next when finished choosing a service account.

  12. At the Listen Ports screen, enter the HTTP and HTTPS TCP/IP ports that listen for network traffic. Click Next when finished.

Generally, the default values of 80 for HTTP and 443 for HTTPS are used unless there is another application already bound to these ports.

  13. At the SSL Certificate screen, specify whether to use an existing certificate or create a new certificate. You should use a certificate that references the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) rather than a certificate that references the hostname of the Integrator computer.

    • To select an existing SSL certificate, click Select, then select the appropriate certificate to use.

    • To create a new SSL certificate, click Create. At the Create SSL Certificate screen, click Yes.

If you create a new SSL certificate, be aware that the installer will create a self-signed certificate that is intended only for testing on single-computer environments.

Note: If a self-signed certificate is used, all computers that access PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS must have the certificate manually trusted; this includes all computers on which the PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS user interface is accessed from a browser in addition to all computers on which Esri client applications and software are running. In short, any map or application that accesses feature layers that are hosted by PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS, including the GeoEvent Server that polls the integrator for data, must have the self-signed certificate trusted. See Configure certificates.

  14. At the Firewall Exception screen, select whether or not to create an exception in the Windows firewall. To create a Windows firewall exception, click Create a Windows Firewall Exception (Recommended); otherwise, click Do not create a Windows Firewall Exception, then click Next.

You are now ready to begin the software installation.

  15. Click Install.

Before clicking Install, you can click Back if you want to modify any of the settings that were entered previously.

When the installation is complete, a message displays indicating whether the installation was successful. Click Finish to end the installation program. Check the Launch the PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS 2017 SP1 box to open the PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS user interface after the setup program exits. When the installation is complete, click the Close button.

After completing the installation, you can confirm that the installation was successful by navigating to:

    https://Fully-Qualified-Domain-Name:port/configuration

Note: You should always access PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS by using the URL containing the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) rather than a URL that references the hostname only.

When PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS software is upgraded, the upgrade is detected by all supported web browsers and the latest version of PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS website is reloaded automatically. No other actions are required.

Note: When logging in to PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS after the installation is complete, you might encounter a warning that your machine certificate is not trusted. A known issue with Mozilla Firefox might prevent you from attempting to trust a machine certificate. See Mozilla bug for more information.
