In case of hardware failure or if you are decommissioning hardware and replacing it, PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS software can be moved to new hardware. Moving to new hardware might involve moving either of the following components:

  • PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS

  • Microsoft SQL database (which stores PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS configuration data)

As a precaution, you should create a backup of your SQL database before moving any software components.

Configuration information for PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS is stored in the SQL database. If you intend to keep the database in its current location, then you simply install PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS on the new hardware and point the installation program to the same database you were using before.

If the SQL database must be moved to a new computer, then you simply back up the existing pigeoportal database and restore it on the new SQL Server. The topics that follow provide details for each of these steps.

Each scenario is described below:

Retire the old instance

After the previous steps are complete, the new instance should be fully functional and data should be updating in all feature layers. After confirming data flow, you can decommission the old hardware.
