Problems using the PI Vision Widgets or ad-hoc PI Vision displays

The widget attempts to detect errors when they occur and show them in the widget or through a modal dialog box if the configuration dialog is open. In most cases the AVEVA PI Vision display cannot be shown unless the error is corrected.

Validation and verification of the required software components

The service end point URL is invalid or unreachable URL

Verify that a properly formatted URL was entered. Check the tooltip on the edit box for the correct format.

Could not connect to the Application Server for the services end point URL: URL

Verify that the correct PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS URL was entered and that the server is reachable and running.

Could not obtain services for the services end point URL: URL

Verify that the correct PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS URL was entered and that the server is reachable and running.

An Application Server version of 1.2 and greater is required to use the AVEVA PI Vision widget.

Upgrade or use PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS version of 1.2 or later.

AVEVA PI Vision requires an IE version of 10.0 or greater to display properly, current version is: current version

While AVEVA PI Vision works best with Microsoft Internet Explorer version 10.0 or later, it is possible that it might work. IE might also show pages in mobile mode if using earlier versions of the browser.

IE version: version could not be set in Ops Dashboard registry emulation key. AVEVA PI Vision may not display properly within the widget.

It is possible that the widget might work or it might display pages in mobile mode. If Internet Explorer is not working properly contact OSIsoft Technical Support.

General

Error message

Explanation / Possible solution

Display preview images cannot be loaded because the selected AVEVA PI Vision server is not configured to allow this.

Use a AVEVA PI Vision server that is configured to use HTTPS.

You do not have a AVEVA PI Vision server registered. Please go to the PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS Application Server to register a server.

Register a AVEVA PI Vision server in PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS.

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Most likely, the URL to the ad-hoc or custom PI Vision display is mis-configured. Verify the URL matches what is provided by the Integrator and that any additional URL parameters follow the correct syntax.

The Data Source on the map is broken.

Most likely, the data source has been removed from the map. You might also see error messages from Operations Dashboard.

The feature selected does not match the Datasource configured. Select another feature that belongs to this DataSource or change the Datasource in the configuration dialog.

Verify that the service and layer combination match the data source.

Ensure that the data source you are interested in is on your map and that you have selected it when initially configuring the operations view.

Error while getting unique element.

This error can point to variety of issues. Start by checking that the AF database is reachable. Then check the template and element configurations. Elements must be uniquely named or they cannot be found. The error can also point to a mis-configuration in the widget between the service / layer and data source combination.

Could not obtain services for the services end point URL: URL

Verify that services are defined on the PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS Services page.

Failed to load the DisplayServer endpoint for layer: service name\layer name

Verify that a layer exists for the selected service and that the layer has a key field defined.

Layer: layer name could not be found on service: Service name

The layer is no longer associated with this service on PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS. The most likely explanation is that the layer has been deleted.

This error might also occur if there is a configuration error in the widget between the service and layer combination and the data source.

Errors Pertaining to the Ad-hoc widget only

Explanation / Possible solution

Unable to create the Ad-Hoc URL for the selected feature.

The selected feature cannot be found in the layer used to configure the widget. Check the widget configuration and the layer configuration.

This error might also occur if there is a configuration error in the widget between the service and layer combination and the data source.

The layer with ID ‘layer ID’ on service 'service name' for account 'account name' was not found.

The layer is no longer associated with this service on PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS. The most likely explanation is that the layer has been deleted.

This error might also occur if there is a configuration error in the widget between the service and layer combination and the data source.

Errors Pertaining to the Custom widget only

Explanation / Possible solution

No feature context is selected

Select a feature on the map that belongs to the layer that is configured for the map.

Failed to set feature key name from Ad hoc endpoint.

The feature selected cannot be found in the layer that is used to configure the widget. Check the widget configuration and the layer configuration.

No displays are defined in the specified layer's DisplayServer. Please associate one or more displays with this layer using the Administration Site of the PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS Application Server

Verify that one or more displays are associated with this layer by using the PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS Administration Site.

The layer has been deleted or could not be found on the PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS Application Server.

The layer is no longer associated with this service on PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS. The most likely explanation is that the layer has been deleted.

This error might also occur if there is a configuration error in the widget between the service and layer combination and the data source.

This layer does not have any field assigned as the key. The display service cannot function without this. Please use the Administration Site of the PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS Application Server to choose a suitable key field.

For the widget to work properly, the layer must have a key field assigned.
