Creating a layer: Basic information

Follow the steps in this topic to enter basic information about your layer.

If necessary, open one of the previously defined Services by selecting it from the PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS home screen.
If you have not previously defined a layer, the following message displays:
If you have previously defined one or more layers they are listed alphabetically on the screen. You can change how the list of layers is displayed by clicking either Table view or Tile view. Tile view displays layers in a series of boxes or "tiles," while Table view shows the layers in a table. See The Layers Table view for information about how to customize the display and configure options.

Click the Create Layer button.

In the Name field, enter a name for the new layer.
Fields with an asterisk next to them are mandatory. Specify a name that contains a minimum of five lowercase or uppercase alphanumeric characters or underscores. The name is required and must be unique. Do not use spaces or special characters in the name.

Enter a description for the layer in the Description field.

Choose one of the following options:

Check Time-enabled Feature Layer to create an item in your Portal for ArcGIS or ArcGIS Online. Selecting this option requires you to further select whether to use ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise. Select either ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise, then, when prompted, enter your ArcGIS user name and password.

Check Connect through ArcGIS GeoEvent Server to publish the layer to ArcGIS GeoEvent Server.

Check both Time-enabled Feature Layer and Connect through ArcGIS GeoEvent Server boxes. Selecting both boxes requires you to further select whether to use ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise. Select either ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise, then, when prompted, enter your ArcGIS user name and password.

Click Continue after selecting one of the previous choices.
The Data source screen displays. Continue to Creating a layer: Data source.
