Deleting layers

The Layer Delete wizard runs when you click the delete icon next to a layer. The wizard displays a message asking whether you are sure you want to run the Layer Delete wizard. The Layer Delete wizard walks you through the steps to delete Feature Services, ArcGIS GeoEvent Server objects, and Integrator layers.

Note: You will have ample opportunity to specify exactly what will and will not be deleted by the Layer Delete wizard. Clicking OK merely starts the wizard, and does not immediately delete your layer.

Note: If a layer was configured using PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS 2015 and your system was subsequently upgraded to PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS 2017 SP1, use the layer delete wizard to delete the Integrator layer; however, you cannot delete any of the ArcGIS objects that were created with the 2015 version.

The Layer Delete wizard consists of three steps:

  • Feature Service environment, where you enter and validate your password for either ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS

  • GeoEvent Server Environment, where you enter and validate your password for GeoEvent Server

  • Confirmation and status, where you verify which objects will be deleted.

Note that you can skip one or more steps if desired by clicking the Skip button at the bottom of the page. For example. you might want to keep a Feature Service and delete only the GeoEvent objects and the layer. The wizard allows complete flexibility to delete or retain any Feature Service object.

When you publish a layer, information about the layer is stored in the PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS database, including the following:

  • Where the feature service was published (ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS)

  • The user name that was used to create the feature service (but not the password)

  • Any identifying information that can be used to find the Feature Service

In addition to the above, certain information about the GeoEvent Server is also stored, including:

  • The URL of the GeoEvent Server

  • The user name

  • Information used to locate the GeoEvent objects

Each of the Delete wizard steps is described in the topics that follow.

Before starting the Layer Delete Wizard, ensure that you have access to the GeoEvent Server and ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS on which the layer was previously published.
