Embedded graphic limitations

Embedded graphic bounds are not automatically recalculated in a running OMI web client window when a ViewApp that contains a parent graphic with an embedded child graphic is updated.

The parent graphic may not resize correctly at runtime if the embedded graphic is changed in a way that changes its central anchor point.

In the following example, graphic B (the "child" graphic) is embedded into graphic A (the "parent" graphic). Graphic B initially contains a digital clock and the text above it. Its anchor point is at the center of the graphic elements.

Graphic A

If the child graphic is changed in a way that shifts its anchor point, the appearance of the graphic within the OMI web client may change in a way that is not anticipated, as shown in the next image. Button 1 was added to child graphic B. Because the center of graphic B is now midway between the digital clock and Button 1, the anchor point of the child graphic has shifted up and to the left in relation to the parent graphic.

In the OMI desktop, the boundary of the parent graphic is automatically calculated at runtime, and the entire updated child graphic will be visible.

In the OMI web client, the parent graphic retains its original bounds and any elements that extend beyond the original boundary are clipped and not shown.

Anytime you change a graphic that is embedded in another graphic, we recommend that you review all graphics in which the embedded graphic is present and verify that any shift is acceptable, and if not, to reconfigure the graphic as required.

Workarounds for OMI web client

Option 1 – Edit and re-save the Parent Graphic

  1. Open the Parent Graphic.

  2. Reposition the Child Graphic if required; otherwise make a minor change and re-save the graphic.

  3. Redeploy the ViewApp. The graphic boundaries are updated, and the full Child Graphic will be visible.

Option 2 – Validate the Parent Graphic

  1. Open the Parent Graphic and validate it.

  2. Validation triggers a bounds recalculation.

  3. Redeploy the ViewApp. The graphic boundaries are updated, and the full Child Graphic will be visible.
