XY Plot

This content item displays data from analog streams in a scatter plot. Scatter plots are typically useful for visualizing correlations between a single stream (X-Axis) and a group of streams (Y-Axis). For example, it could be used to visualize the relationship between temperature and pressure.

Although the chart doesn’t show time, the data points are taken from the same point in time so that you can see correlations. When there is a stored value at a given point in time, the stored value is used. When there isn’t a stored value for that point, the value is interpolated.

Configure the following properties for this content item:

  • In the Basic tab:

    • Follow asset context - When this is enabled:

      • If this content is in a visualization, it uses the visualization's asset context as the asset for asset stream ref data. For details, see Create a new visualization.

      • If this content is in an experience, it uses the navigation item's asset reference as the asset for asset stream ref data. For details, see the Add content to a pane section in Add content to panes in your navigation items.

        This property only affects asset stream ref data; it has no effect if the content item is configured with stream data.

    • Follow time context - When this is enabled:

      • If this content is in a visualization, it uses the visualization's time context as the time range for the data it displays. For details, see Create a new visualization.

      • If this content is in an experience, it uses the time selected in the time selector content item as the time range for the data it displays. For details, see Add a time selector.

    • Time - If Follow time context is disabled, select the time range for the data displayed in the content item.

    • Add Data - Select streams to include in this content . You can search for streams by name, by filter, or both. Note that only analog streams will display on the plot.

      • To search by stream name, enter a value in the Search for data field.

      • To apply filters, select Filter icon to view and select filters. Select Back icon to accept your selected filters and return to the previous search panel.

      • To add a single stream, select that stream's name. To add multiple streams, check the box for each stream, then select Add Data.

  • In the Advanced tab:

    • Title - The title that displays for this content item. This property is only available in grid visualizations; content items do not display titles in canvas visualizations or experiences.

    • X-Axis - The stream to use for the X-axis.

    • Show lines between data points - Display lines between data points.

    • Show best fit line - The best fit line displays the overall trend of the data points in the graph. The best fit line is calculated using a linear regression algorithm using the least squares method, based on the general polynomial formula:

      y = a + b·x + c·x² + d·x³ + ... + n·xⁿ

      Where:

      • a, b, c, d, ..., n are the coefficients computed from the dataset using matrix operations,

      • The coefficients are calculated using the standard least squares regression formula:

        b = (Xᵗ·X)⁻¹ · Xᵗ·y

    • Show legend - Display the legend.

Edit, hide, or remove data

After a stream or asset stream ref has been added to the content item, use the buttons to the right of it to edit, hide, or remove it.

The data section of the properties with the edit, hid, and remove buttons to the right of the stream

  • Edit: Change the name that displays in the content item for the stream or asset stream ref.

  • Hide/Unhide: Hide or unhide the stream or asset stream ref.

  • Remove: Remove the stream or asset stream ref from the content item.
