There are a number of tools for interacting with line charts. The tools available depend on whether the line chart is in a visualization or experience, and on the type of line chart.
Pan
The pan tool is available for all line charts in visualizations or experiences.
To pan on a line or stacked line chart, select the pan icon
, and then drag the chart in the desired direction. If you are in the visualization
designer, save the visualization to save changes to the displayed range for that content
item.
Zoom
The zoom tool is available for all line charts in visualizations or experiences.
To zoom in on a specific time range in a line chart, select
and then drag across a range of time. To zoom back out, select Reset Zoom.
You can also use the mouse scroll wheel to zoom.
Note: Using the zoom function alters the time range displayed on the chart. If there are more than 10,000 visible streams when you zoom in, the line chart stops displaying string and discrete streams, and you'll receive a notification asking you to reduce your time range.
If you are in the visualization designer, the zoom level is saved when you save the visualization.
Cursors
The cursor tool is available:
-
In visualizations; it is not available in experiences.
-
For line charts in the Visualization category only; it is not available for line charts in the Event Visualization category.
Cursors can be used to select a section of the time shown on a line chart. You can then view statistics about each stream's values in the chart for the selected section of time.
To use cursors on a line chart:
-
Select the line chart content item in the visualization. The content toolbar appears above or below the content item, depending on the layout of the content in the visualization.
-
Select Add Cursor
in the content toolbar, then add a start and end cursor to select a section.
The Cursor pane opens on the right.
-
Expand a stream in the Cursor pane. The statistics of the stream's values over the selected period are shown, including start, end, maximum, minimum, average, and delta.
-
If you editing a visualization, save the visualization to save the cursor positions. If you are viewing a visualization, the cursors cannot be saved.
Comment
The comment tool is available:
-
In visualizations; it is not available in experiences.
-
For line charts in the Visualization category only; it is not available for line charts in the Event Visualization category.
-
For lines representing streams; comments cannot be added to lines representing asset stream reference, asset metadata, or event data sources.
You can add a comment to a specific point on a line chart. To add a comment:
-
Select the Comment icon
, then select a point on the chart you wish to comment on. The Add comment dialog opens.

-
Configure the following fields:
-
Select Stream: The stream to comment on. The stream you selected on the chart is selected by default.
-
Enter comment text: Enter your comment.
-
Visible to: Select whether the comment should be visible to only you, or shared with other members of your team.
-
Asset: Link this comment to an asset for added context.
-
-
Select Save to save the comment. Once saved, the comment appears on the chart.
To edit or delete a comment, select the More actions icon
from the View comment dialog, then select either Edit or Remove.
