Enable Asset Information Management - Advanced (AIM-A) Integration

Integrating Asset Information Management - Advanced (AIM-A) with CONNECT visualization provides a unified interface for searching, browsing, and viewing asset data across multiple devices, including mobile. You can view and compare documents, drawings, and 2D and 3D models in context, and create custom visualizations.

To integrate AIM-A with CONNECT visualization, an Account Administrator completes the following procedures:

1. Integrate AIM-A and CONNECT visualization. Enable the connection between AIM-A and CONNECT visualization.

2. Integrate 3D Visualization Cloud Streaming Service and CONNECT visualization. Enable cloud-based 3D model viewing in CONNECT visualization .

3. Verify and configure user roles. Confirm existing roles and assign additional roles in CONNECT data services and CONNECT visualization.

4. Configure the data source. Add a CONNECT data services data source in CONNECT visualization.

5. Verify the integration. Confirm that AIM-A data appears in CONNECT visualization.

   To integrate multiple AIM-A portals, enable each portal with a separate CONNECT visualization solution. You can switch between solutions from your profile. See Switch the solution you're using.

Prerequisites

Before starting the integration process, ensure the following prerequisites are met:

• You have the CONNECT Account Administrator role.

• Your Flex Credit Agreement includes the following subscriptions:

  • FLEX-CVS-001 CONNECT visualization

  • FLEX-ADH-001 CONNECT data services

Part 1: Integrate AIM-A and CONNECT visualization

Complete the following steps in CONNECT.

AIM-A and CONNECT visualization do not need to reside in the same folder on CONNECT—you can integrate an AIM-A service from any folder you have access to.

6. From the CONNECT navigation rail, select Folder management.

7. On the Folder management page, select the folder that contains the CONNECT visualization solution that you want to integrate with AIM-A.

8. Under Services, locate the Visualization card. Turn on the switch, then select Enable. If prompted, select an available region for the service and select Save.

9. The service may take a few minutes to activate. Refresh your browser and verify that the card shows the service is enabled.

10. On the card, select More , then select Manage integrations. The Manage Integrations for Visualization dialog opens and displays the list of available integrations.

11. Select the Visualization to AIM integration that lists Asset Information Management-Advanced as the service and corresponds to the correct folder. Select Next.

    

12. On the Summary step, select Confirm.

13. The dialog returns to the integration list and displays a success message on the enabled integration (or an error message if an issue occurs). Select Close.

Part 2: Integrate 3D Visualization Cloud Streaming Service and CONNECT visualization

Complete the following steps in CONNECT.

14. From the CONNECT navigation rail, select Folder management.

15. Select the folder that contains the CONNECT visualization solution that you want to integrate with the 3D Visualization Cloud Streaming Service.

16. Under Services, locate the 3DVis Cloud Streaming Service card.

17. On the card, select More , then select Manage integrations. The Manage Integrations for 3DVis Cloud Streaming Service dialog opens and displays the list of available integrations.

18. Select the Visualization to 3DVis Cloud integration that lists Visualization as the service and corresponds to the correct folder. Select Next.

    

19. On the Summary step, select Confirm.

20. The dialog returns to the integration list and displays a success message on the enabled integration (or an error message if an issue occurs). Select Close.

Part 3: Verify and configure user roles

After completing the integration, verify existing role assignments and add additional roles in CONNECT data services and CONNECT visualization.

Verify existing roles

After integration, most existing users and administrators will already have the following roles. Verify that they’re assigned:

Users

• Default User role in AIM-A

Administrators

• Administrator role in CONNECT visualization

• Tenant Administrator role in CONNECT data services

  For new users or administrators, assign the roles listed above.

Add additional roles

• In CONNECT data services, add the Tenant Viewer role and Data Service Viewer role for all users and administrators.

• In CONNECT visualization, add the Viewer role for all users and administrators.

Part 4: Configure the data source

CONNECT visualization uses data sources from CONNECT data services, even if data is not stored there. To add a data source:

21. In CONNECT visualization, select Configure from the navigation rail, then select Data sources.

22. Select Add data source from the top right corner.

23. Select the Data source.

24. Enter a Prefix for the data source. A prefix is a unique name that identifies the data source.

    

25. Select Save.

    After saving, the Synchronization status column on the Data sources page shows Success when data is synchronized. The data then appears in CONNECT visualization. For more information, see Configure data sources in CONNECT visualization.

    

Part 5: Verify the integration

Confirm that AIM-A data appears in CONNECT visualization:

• Search for AIM-A data: In CONNECT visualization, select Search from the application bar, or select the search box on the default home page. Search for AIM-A items such as 3D models, documents, or tags. See Search for assets, data, or visualizations.

• Browse plant breakdowns: In CONNECT visualization, select Browse from the navigation rail, then select Plant Breakdown. Expand a node to drill down into the hierarchy and view AIM-A assets. See Browse asset information in the plant breakdown.
