Canvas visualization tools and properties

This section describes tools and properties specific to canvas visualizations. They are not available in grid visualizations.

Canvas tools and features

In addition to the tools and features available for grid visualizations, the following are available for canvas visualizations:

• Add Text: Select the Add Text button to add text that can be placed anywhere on the visualization. Configure the text properties as follows:

  • Text: Enter the text to display.

  • Color: The color and opacity of the text.

  • Font size: The size of the font.

  • Font weight: Select whether or not to bold the text.

  • Hyperlink: Enter a URL to make the text a hyperlink for viewers of the visualization. When viewers select the link it opens in a new tab. The protocol (http:// or https://) is not required.

    Validation isn't performed, so verify that the URL is correct.

• Arrange content: When content in the visualization overlaps, use the Arrange options to control whether content appears on top of or beneath overlapping content:

  1. Select the content to arrange.

  2. Select the three dot menu in the toolbar above the content.

  3. Select Arrange, then select whether to bring the layer forward or send it back.

• Maintain aspect ratio while resizing content: To resize content without changing its aspect ratio, hold Shift while dragging a side or corner of the content.

Keyboard shortcuts

The following keyboard shortcuts are available in canvas visualizations when a content item is selected:

• Press Delete to delete the content item.

• Use the arrow keys to move the content item.

Canvas properties

Canvases have configurable properties that can change the look of the visualization and customize your editing experience.

To modify the canvas properties, select the Properties button near the top right of the page. The properties are:

• Canvas size: The size of the canvas. Choose to set this automatically, or specify dimensions in pixels.

  If you select fixed dimensions, a background image can be selected.

  If you select fixed dimensions, you can place content outside of the specified dimensions. When viewers view the canvas, the dimensions will be adjusted to accommodate the content placed outside the specified dimensions.

• The following properties affect the grid that shows in edit mode. The grid isn't visible when viewing the visualization.

  • Show grid: Show the grid in edit mode.

  • Snap to grid: Automatically align content to the nearest grid cell.

  • Grid color: The color of the grid.

  • Grid size: The size in pixels of each grid cell.

• Background color: The color and opacity of the canvas background. Use the color picker or enter a hexadecimal code.

• Background image: This property appears if the canvas size is fixed. Select an image to use for the canvas background, then use the dropdown below to select how the image appears.
