Canvas dashboard tools and properties

This section describes tools and properties specific to canvas dashboards. They are not available in grid dashboards.

Canvas tools and features

In addition to the tools and features available for grid dashboards, the following are available for canvas dashboards:

• Add Text: Select Add Text to add a text box. Configure the text properties as follows:

  • Text: Enter the text to display.

  • Font: Select the typeface for the text.

  • Font style: Select the style of the text, such as bold or italic. Available options depend on the selected font.

  • Font size: Select or enter the size of the text.

  • Color: Select or enter the color and opacity of the text.

  • Hyperlink: Enter a URL to make the text a hyperlink for viewers of the dashboard. When viewers select the link it opens in a new tab. The protocol (http:// or https://) is not required. Note that validation isn't performed, so verify that the URL is correct.

• Add Image: Select Add Image to add an image, then select the desired image. The requirements for the image are as follows:

  • It cannot be larger than 2 MB.

  • It must be a GIF, JPG, JPEG, PNG, JFIF, PJPEG, or PJP

  • The combined size of all images added to the canvas cannot exceed 20 MB.

• Arrange content: When content in the dashboard overlaps, use the Arrange options to control whether content appears on top of or beneath overlapping content:

  1. Select the content to arrange.

  2. Select More in the toolbar above the content.

  3. Select Arrange, then select whether to bring the layer forward or send it back.

• Maintain aspect ratio while resizing content: To resize content without changing its aspect ratio, hold Shift while dragging a side or corner of the content.

Keyboard shortcuts

The following keyboard shortcuts are available in canvas dashboards when a content item is selected:

• Press Delete to delete the content item.

• Use the arrow keys to move the content item.

Interact with content within content items in the canvas

To interact with the content within a content item — for example, to pan on a line chart, or export a chart — select the Interact button in the content item's tool bar.

Note: You cannot move content items in interaction mode.

Canvas properties

Canvases have configurable properties that can change the look of the dashboard and customize your editing experience.

To modify the canvas properties, select Properties . The properties are:

• Canvas size: The size of the canvas. Choose to set this automatically, or specify dimensions in pixels.

  If you select fixed dimensions, a background image can be selected.

  If you select fixed dimensions, you can place content outside of the specified dimensions. When viewers view the canvas, the dimensions will be adjusted to accommodate the content placed outside the specified dimensions.

• The following properties affect the grid that shows in edit mode. The grid isn't visible when viewing the dashboard.

  • Show grid: Show the grid in edit mode.

  • Snap to grid: Automatically align content to the nearest grid cell.

  • Grid color: The color of the grid.

  • Grid size: The size in pixels of each grid cell.

• Background color: The color and opacity of the canvas background. Choose a color or enter a hexadecimal code.

• Background image: This property appears if the canvas size is fixed. Select an image to use for the canvas background, then use the dropdown below to select how the image appears.
