Manage Extensions

Extensions enable you to add metadata to an object. This can include configuration maps that help configure the same value across multiple tools. Right-click the parent, transitional folder to add extensions.

Before you manage extensions ensure that you have the required top-level extensions defined in the Extension Namespaces tab of Standard Details. Here you can define properties with namespaces.

Defining Top-level Extension Namespaces

To define top-level extension namespaces:

  1. On the Extension Namespaces tab, click the Add button to create an extension namespace.

  2. In the Prefix field, enter a word of your choice. Ensure that the prefix name does not contain a colon (:) or space, and does not start with a number.

  3. Enter a name for your extension namespace in the Name field.

  4. Use the URI field to input a universal resource identifier (URI), which is a universally unique string.

  5. Optionally, in the Description field, provide a purposeful description of what the extension namespace does. You may have applied the extension namespace to Attributes, Standards, Enumerations or a Functional Class.

After defining top-level extension namespaces, you can define object-specific extensions.

The Extensions tab on Standards Details is reserved for managing extensions for other applications, such as AVEVA Asset Information Management. For information, refer to the AVEVA Information Standards Manager Importing from MS Excel document.

Adding a Namespace

To add an object-level namespace:

  1. Right-click a parent to add a namespace.

  2. In the Add Extension Namespace Node window, select the required namespace from the dropdown.

  3. To create the record and continue to create more records, click Add. Alternatively, click Add and Close.

    Using Transitional Folder

    To create a transitional folder:

    1. To add an extension node, click Add Node.

    2. Enter a unique identification and name. The Name is a mandatory field.

    3. To create the record and continue to create more records, click Add. Alternatively, click Add and Close.

      Adding a Property

      To extend a property:

      1. Right-click Add Property to extend properties.

      2. Enter a unique property name, which is mandatory, along with its value in the respective fields. For example, GroupSuffix.

      3. Select the Make Derivable check box, if required. In such a case, the new object will derive properties from its parent.

      4. To create the record and continue to create more records, click Add. Alternatively, click Add and Close.
