Add Taxonomy Nodes

To create a taxonomy using the following procedure, ensure that you have the Creator privilege and have the Standard locked for editing:

  1. Right-click a Taxonomy and select Taxonomy Node.

  2. Enter the required information:

    1. Enter a unique identification for the Taxonomy Node. This supports alphanumeric characters, and does not auto-increment.

Note: Whilst the application accepts white spaces and special characters, it is not recommended to use them.

    2. Enter a name for the identification in this optional field. If left blank, ID is displayed instead of Name in the user interface. This field accepts alphanumeric characters.

    3. Describe the purpose of this Taxonomy Node.

  3. To create the record and continue to create more records, click Add. Alternatively, click Add and Close. This brings you to the Details tab of that Taxonomy Node.

  4. In the Corresponding Identifiers section on the Details tab, enter a nomenclature map. You can enter more than one nomenclature map. For information, see Implementing Corresponding Identifiers.

  5. In the Properties Specific to Taxonomy Node section, select a category or discipline taxonomy, if available, in the Taxonomy field and a parent taxonomy in the Ancestor field. However, if the extensions are suffixed with an exclamation mark (!), then the Ancestor field appears empty. For a Class Concept, this section appears as Properties Specific to Permissible <Class Concept> Class.

  6. Enter a value in the Sort Order field. This value represents the order in which the Taxonomy Nodes are listed in the tree view.

The Taxonomy Node is now created.

    Notes:

  • To discontinue using a Taxonomy Node, select the Obsolete check box in the General Properties section on the Details tab.

  • Ensure that the taxonomy name does not contain the pipe character (|). Out of multiple segments delimited by the pipe character, the first segment is the taxonomy identifier, while the successive segments are node identifiers.
