To create a taxonomy using the following procedure, ensure that you have the Creator privilege and have the Standard locked for editing:

  1. Right-click a Concept and select Add Taxonomy.

  2. Enter the required information:

    1. Enter a unique identification for the Taxonomy. This supports alphanumeric characters, and does not auto-increment.

Note: Whilst the application accepts white spaces and special characters, it is not recommended to use them.

    2. Enter a name for the identification in this optional field. If left blank, ID is displayed instead of Name in the user interface. This field accepts alphanumeric characters.

    3. Describe the purpose of this Taxonomy.

  3. To create the record and continue to create more records, click Add. Alternatively, click Add and Close. This brings you to the Details tab of that Taxonomy.

  4. In the Corresponding Identifiers section on the Details tab, enter a nomenclature map. You can enter more than one nomenclature map. For information, see Implementing Corresponding Identifiers.

  5. In the Properties Specific to Taxonomy section, select a value for Concept from the dropdown. This value is applicable only for root-level Taxonomies, such as Functional or Physical.

  6. Enter a value in the Sort Order field. This value represents the order in which the Taxonomies will be listed in the tree view.

    The Taxonomy is now defined.

Note: To discontinue using a Taxonomy Node, select the Obsolete check box in the General Properties section.
