AVEVA™ Information Standards Manager

Create or Manage Compositions

  • Last UpdatedJun 24, 2024
  • 3 minute read

Use the fields in this tab to add items to a Composition. If you have read-only privileges, you cannot modify the information in this tab. However, you can reorder the records displayed in a Composition. The Standards take precedence based on their order in the composition.

Notes:

  • You may work on a Class Library, where the Standard contained within the Composition is locked and changed by another user. Such changes do not reflect on your Class Library until the Standard is saved and unlocked by the other user and you have refreshed your web browser.

  • You may lock a Class Library for editing on a web browser, while working on a Standard contained within its Composition on a different web browser. In such cases, the changes you make to the Standard may not be reflected in the Class Library until you reload the Standard in the web browser you used to access the Class Library.

To add a Composition:

  1. On the Composition tab, click the Add button. From the dropdown in the Add Items to the Composition window, select the required Catalogue Standard.

Note: Catalogue Standards previously added to the Standard do not display in the dropdown.

  2. To create the record and continue to create more records, click Add. Alternatively, click Add and Close.

  3. The ID and Name fields on the Composition tab will display the added record.

  4. The Required Version field displays the version required by the application. You can use this field to set the version of the Standard to use. The version histories of changes saved and tagged by you are listed in the dropdown for this field. You can have this value set to a version which may be different from the value in the Actual Version field, which is read-only.

  5. Click Close.

Nomenclature mapping using composition

Example:

  • Let us assume we have two standards (A and B). Standard A is applied as a composition into Standard B. When we are adding or modifying composition (Nomenclature) items into Standard B, it means we are doing this operation into the current Standard B. In this case, any item which we were modifying is treated as a new item in current Standard B, because earlier that item was not actually part of Standard B (it was inherited from Standard A). Hence, it shows as a new item. Refer to the screenshot below for more details.

  • Before adding a new identifier into Standard B.

  • After adding new identifier into Standard B, it is treated as a new item. Hence, it is displaying as Green. After saving it will change to white.

  • We can identify whether the value is derived or not on right clicking the respective text box as shown in the following screenshot. Standard B can be exported to find the derived value as well.

  • The following screenshot shows the Accumulator item is added as a new item along with the two identifiers (FC-0078 and FC-0079) after saving Standard B.

Note: After performing the above steps, any changes made to Standard A should not reflect into Standard B. Application behaves the same for "Import and merge option" or "Edit manually" into current standard.
