To create a Naming Element, ensure that you have the Creator privilege and have the Standard locked for editing:
-
Right-click the Naming Element folder and select Add Naming Element.
-
Enter the required information:
-
Enter a unique identification for the Naming Element. This supports alphanumeric characters, and does not auto-increment.
Note: Whilst the application accepts white spaces and special characters, it is not recommended to use them.
-
Enter a name for the identification in this optional field. If left blank, ID is displayed instead of Name in the user interface. This field accepts alphanumeric characters.
-
Describe the purpose of this Naming Element.
-
-
To create the record and continue to create more records, click Add. Alternatively, click Add and Close. This brings you to the Details tab of that Naming Element. In the Corresponding Identifiers section on the Details tab, enter a nomenclature.
-
In the Corresponding Identifiers section on the Details tab, enter a nomenclature map. You can enter more than one nomenclature map. For information, see Implementing Corresponding Identifiers.
-
In the Properties Specific to Naming Element section, enter a number in the Sequence ID field. Any new record will auto-increment this number.
-
In the Attribute field, select the source Attribute for the Element. For example, for Discipline Identifier as the Naming Element, Discipline will be the source Attribute. You can have only one Attribute.
-
Select the Mandatory check box if the Attribute is mandatory.
-
Optionally, select the Hide on Empty Value check box. It is recommended to leave the check box cleared if the Mandatory check box is selected.
-
In the Prefix, Suffix and Padding fields, enter values for the respective fields. These values define the Naming Element:
-
Prefix: Specifies a character sequence to prefix the Element value when composing an object name.
-
Suffix: Specifies a character sequence to suffix the Element value when composing an object name. Typically, either prefix or suffix is used for an Element, but not both.
-
Padding: If the value provided contains less than the required number of characters, the value will be padded by the padding characters. The padding will be either on left or right, depending on the Data Type of the associated Attribute.
-
-
The Min Number of Characters and Max Number of Characters fields display the lower and upper acceptable limits, respectively, of the number of characters that the field requires. If you set a value in Min Number of Characters, ensure that you set a value in Padding. The values must be positive integers. The maximum value must be greater than or equal to the value for the minimum characters.
-
Enter a value in the Fixed Value field. This value represents a hard-coded value for the Element.
-
Enter a Validation Regular Expression in its text field.
-
Enter a value in the Sort Order field. This value represents the order in which all Elements will be listed in the folder in the tree view.
-
Enter an Aspect if it is implemented on the Element. Aspect lists similar properties in a dropdown.
The Naming Element is defined.
Note: To discontinue using a Naming Element, select the Obsolete check box in the General Properties section on the Details tab.
