A Taxonomy is a way of structuring Concept-based information without disturbing the hierarchies laid within Concepts.

You can use taxonomies to catalogue the information contained within objects by categorizing them in groups and subgroups. Taxonomy provides a way of breaking down Classes into arbitrary structures that contain a collection of Nodes. A node can further be a collection of nodes.

For detailed understanding of taxonomies, see AVEVA Information Standards Manager Importing from MS Excel document.

What is a Taxonomy Node?

A taxonomy node is a single point, or node, within the structured order of information. It can contain a collection of nodes. The taxonomical hierarchy can be deep. Therefore, it is recommended that the taxonomy identifiers be unique within a taxonomy node and none of the node contain a white space (space between characters and words).
