To create a class or sub-class, ensure that you have the Creator privilege and have the Standard locked for editing:
-
Right-click a Class Concept folder and select Add Class or Add Sub-Class.
-
Enter the required information:
-
Enter a unique identification for the class. This supports alphanumeric characters. This field does not auto-increment.
Note: Whilst the application accepts white spaces and special characters, it is not recommended to use them.
-
Enter a name for the identification in this optional field. If left blank, ID is displayed instead of Name in the user interface. This field accepts alphanumeric characters.
-
Describe what the Class does for you.
-
-
To create the record and continue to create more records, click Add. Alternatively, click Add and Close. This brings you to the Details tab of that Class.
-
In the Corresponding Identifiers section on the Details tab, enter a nomenclature map. You can enter more than one nomenclature map. For information, see Implementing Corresponding Identifiers.
-
Select the Abstract check box if the Class is generic and will include more specific Classes.
-
Define the Discipline for the Class. This is a text box unless the appropriate Aspect has been associated to an Enumerated List. For information, see Understanding Aspects. Otherwise, this displays as a drop-down menu. For information on selecting a discipline from the dropdown menu, see Using Disciplines.
-
Enter a value in the Sort Order field. This value represents the order in which Classes are listed under their parent folder in the tree view.
The Class is defined.
Notes:
-
To discontinue using a Class, select the Obsolete check box in the General Properties section on the Details tab.
-
For details on adding and managing taxonomies in the Taxonomy Occurrences tab, see Maintaining Taxonomies.
