AVEVA™ Information Standards Manager

User Roles

To manage individual users access to functions, features and tasks in the application, the user privileges are organized by user Roles. A Role is a set of permissions that are granted to a user. It controls the access to application modules and the work flow. A user can have only one active Role, which can only be administered and managed by the Tool Administrator. Each Role determines the authorization granted to a user to perform specific operations. All users that have a specific Role assigned inherit the privileges for that Role.

A Role with higher capacity will include the privileges for all other lesser capacity Roles. For example, if a user has the Administrator Role, they enjoy all privileges for the Creator and the Administrator Roles. Any user permissions granted on an individual folder or Standard will be restricted by the role the user currently has. This means that a Read-only user will not be able to be assign any edit permissions. The Role cannot be amended through the UI. For more information, refer to AVEVA Information Standards Manager Installation Guide.

The following table provides a summary of Roles in AVEVA Information Standards Manager:

Role Name

Responsibility

Administrator

Only a user with Administrator Role can unlock a Standard that may be locked by another user for editing or permanently delete an Obsolete Standard. This enables an additional layer of security. Before the Administrator unlocks the Standard, they must first save it and tag it appropriately before making further changes.

Creator

Creates and edits Standards and the Catalogue folders. Can make a Standard Obsolete. Cannot permanently delete a Standard.

Author

Edits Standards, sets Class hierarchies. Cannot create a Standard.

Reader

Does not have edit permissions. Can only view the information.
