Implement Corresponding Identifiers

When exporting or importing data from or into a data source, information discrepancies can occur even in a simple case of misplaced plurals. Such situations can be countered by implementing naming conventions. The naming conventions help us map the existing data with that of standardised information by making it upgrade-proof and version-proof.
Having the same name (and case sensitivity) when upgrading to the latest version of AVEVA Information Standards Manager ensures version-proofing of the data. The application picks and applies the settings to the new and modified data. This is different from the concept of Languages. For information, see Adding Language Translations.
Note: You must define a nomenclature type. You can have multiple maps for a nomenclature type.
To implement Corresponding Identifiers:
-
Click the Details button (
) on Catalogue or select the currently Active Standard from the global toolbar at the top of your
screen.
-
Go to the Naming Conventions tab.
-
Click Add.
-
In the Add Naming Convention window, enter the required information:
-
Enter a unique identification for the naming convention. For example, ISO15926. This supports alphanumeric characters. This field does not auto-increment.
Note: Whilst the application accepts white spaces and special characters, it is not recommended to use them.
-
Enter a name for the identification in this optional field. If left blank, ID is displayed instead of Name in the user interface. This field accepts alphanumeric characters.
-
Provide the details of the naming convention.
-
-
To create the record, click Add. This brings you back to the Naming Conventions tab.
In addition to having identifiers, you can specify descriptive names. The application uses the value in the Separator field to separate the identifier and the description. If this field is left blank, the colon (:) character becomes the default separator.
-
To reorder the records displayed in the the table, click the Sort Order value on the Naming Conventions tab and enter a new value. The records take precedence based on their order in the table.
-
After reviewing the details provided, click Close.
The record that you create here populates into the Corresponding Identifiers section when creating other records, such as Classes, Attributes, Units of Measure and Enumerations.
