Install the patch

Use the following procedure to install the patch on each node, using the GUI-based Patch Manager. If you have a large system with many nodes or multiple systems to patch, you may want to use the silent patch installation procedure, which can run mostly unattended. See Install the patch silently for details.
There is a recommended sequence for patching systems that run on more than a single node, especially if you have implemented redundancy. In general, patch the Historian node first, then the Galaxy Repository (GR) node, then Application Object Server (AOS) nodes, and then visualization nodes. See Patch redundant AppEngines for information about the order in which these systems should be patched.
Before running the patch installer
-
Perform all of the operations described in Before you run the patch installation program, especially backing up all affected galaxies.
-
Check the System Platform ReadMe for important information about this patch release, including any known Issues that may impact installation.
To run the patch installer
-
Download the patch file to a folder on the computer where System Platform 2023 R2 SP1 is installed (with or without Patch 01 or Patch 02). The patch file name is SP2023R2SP1_Patch03.exe. It is available as a .ZIP file or as an ISO image. Note that you will need to unblock the downloaded file. If you use the ZIP file, extract all files from it. If you use the ISO file, double-click it to mount it.
-
Double-click the SP2023R2SP1_Patch03.exe file to start the installation. If asked whether you want to allow the application to make changes to your device, select Yes. The End User License Agreement (EULA) appears.
-
Read and accept the License Agreement. The Patch Manager window appears.
-
The Patch Manager displays a list of available patches, the associated product names, and patch status for each patch. By default, all installed products are selected for patching. We recommend that you install all patches.
-
Select a product name in the Patch Name column to view the Readme file for that product. The System Platform Readme appears at the top of the list of installable items and associated Readme files.
-
-
Select Install.
-
If there is nothing blocking the patch installation, the Progress Window appears.
-
If there are services running that are blocking installation, most can be shut down automatically through the Patch Manager. A list of these running services appears under the heading Stop Running Services. For a partial list of these services, see System Platform and Microsoft services that can be shut down by the Patch Manager.
To shut down these services, select Stop Services. When all services that are shown have stopped, select Next. Patch installation begins.
IMPORTANT: You may receive a message to close the MMC while installing the patch, even after closing the OCMC (OCMC runs as a snap-in to the MMC). If this occurs, use Task Manager to end the MMC process. If other services or applications continue to block installation, see Manually stop a System Platform process that blocks the Patch Manager.
-
-
After the products have been patched, a Status window lists the installed patches.
-
Select the link provided to view the log file.
-
Select Finish.
IMPORTANT: After you select Finish, the system must perform several tasks to complete the installation. This can require a significant amount of time and no messages are displayed until these tasks are complete. You must wait for the Configurator to open (step 6), and do not restart your system until you are prompted to do so (step 8).
-
-
The System Platform Configurator opens. Use it to reconfigure items as required.
-
After configuring all items, select Close. The patch process begins for the deployed Galaxy, and may require several minutes or more to complete.
IMPORTANT: Do not reboot the node until you see the message to do so.
-
When Galaxy patching completes, you are prompted to restart the node to complete installation.
-
Repeat patch installation for all unpatched nodes in your system.
-
To patch an undeployed Galaxy, open the IDE and connect to it.
When you connect to an unpatched Galaxy, the following message is displayed:
Connecting to <Galaxy Name>.
Galaxy patching is in progress.Note: Galaxy patching may take several minutes. Do not shut down the node while this operation is in progress.
Reboot the machine if required.
Note: Undeployed Galaxies remain unpatched.
Note: You cannot browse an unpatched Galaxy from a patched Galaxy (Multi-Galaxy browsing). You must patch the unpatched Galaxy first.
