Install the patch silently

Silent installation refers to installing the patch through a command prompt rather than the graphical user interface (GUI). Silent installation may be preferable if you are applying the patch to several computers at once.

For Patch 03, the workflow has been simplified. Simply invoke the patch manager from the command line to install the patch. A response file is no longer used, as was the case in prior releases. Due to this change, the command line options are different than what they were in prior releases.

  1. Copy the patch file to each node that you need to update. If you use the zip file, extract all files from it.

    • Make sure that all installation files are unblocked. See Unblock media for details.

    • Check that there are no pending updates that could interfere with installation. See Pending restart for details.

  2. Run cmd.exe as Administrator.

  3. Use the cd command to change the working directory to the folder that contains the SP2023R2SP1_Patch03.exe patch executable file.

  4. Run the appropriate command. To display command line help, type /? after the patch command.

    SP2023R2SP1_Patch03.exe /?

    • SP2023R2SP1_Patch03.exe /silent

The Configurator opens when patch installation finishes, and the computer automatically reboots after you complete configuration.

    • SP2023R2SP1_Patch03.exe /silentnoreboot

The /silentnoreboot option suppresses the automatic reboot after configuration is complete.:

    • SP2023R2SP1_Patch03.exe /silentnoreboot /skipconfigurator

This stops the Configurator from opening after installation completes and prevents the system from rebooting automatically.

    • SP2023R2SP1_Patch03.exe /nowait

This immediately returns you to the command line after invoking the patch.

  5. If you used the /silentnoreboot and/or the /skipconfigurator switch, you must configure the system and reboot it after configuration.

    • If you use the /skipconfigurator option, also use /silentnoreboot. Otherwise, the node will reboot without the configuration being updated and can lead to unpredictable behavior.

    • If you used the /skipconfigurator option, you must run the Configurator from the Start menu.

Note: Only the deployed Galaxy is patched. To patch an undeployed Galaxy, open the IDE and connect to it.
