Operator Training Simulator activities

Use the following procedure to view and start an AVEVA Operator Training Simulator (OTS) or a Pipeline Competency Training OTS activity.

Instructors can view all available course contents. Trainees can view all courses assigned to them. In some cases for Trainees, modules of a course are locked until you pass the previous module.

View and start your OTS activity

1. In My learning, locate the course tile under the curriculum display, and then select Start Course.

   If you had previously started an activity, the tile displays Enter Course instead of Start Course.

   

   The course page opens and displays the various activities in the course.

   

2. Select the tile for the activity that you want to start.

   The details for the modules within the activity appear.

   The Operator Training Simulator () icon indicates that the activity is OTS.

   

3. Select the name of the module that you would like to start.

   A page that contains the details for the module opens.

   

4. Select Open simulation in new tab to begin or resume the activity.

   The session runs in a new window with the Current status as STARTING.

   The session can take several minutes to load.

   

   After the session finishes loading, the Current status changes to RUNNING and Click here to view your session appears.

   

5. Select Click here to view your session.

   The billing for your session starts when you select Click here to view your session.

   The OTS simulation runs and the software directs you to the Operator interface. If multiple Operator interfaces are made available, then you can access them from the upper banner.

   The activity runs for a set period of time. Depending on the course setup, a timer appears in the upper banner and displays your time remaining for the session.

   

   If an Instructor is observing your active OTS session, a Your session is being observed message displays on screen.

   

   When the session finishes, a Assignment Completed dialog appears.

6. (Optional) To end the session early and have the system not record a score:

   1. Select End Exercise.

      A confirmation dialog appears.

      

   2. Select Yes.

      A Session Ended Before Completion page appears.

      

      The system logs the exercise as Aborted instead of recording a score.

      The OTS session ends along with the exercise to ensure that the simulation left in an indeterminant state is not reused. The Trainee must wait for a new OTS session to launch if they want to immediately retry the exercise.

7. In the Assignment Completed dialog, select OK.

   Important: This step does not apply if you started a session for free-practice or to join an Instructor-led session.

   Your score for the session can now be recorded.

   If you exit the session early by closing the window, your score is not recorded until:

   • The scheduled end time passes, and

   • You reopen the session and acknowledge the Assignment Completed dialog.

     After the session finishes, your Trainee Performance Monitoring (TPM) Session Summary Report appears. You can also open this report in the Activity report page. See View the Activity report for more information.
