AVEVA Unified Learning Operator Training Simulator (OTS) activities employ several mechanisms to improve the user experience and minimize the runtime of unused resources.

Important: Users are only charged for the time spent interacting with OTS activities, not for the runtime of the OTS sessions.

Mechanism

Description

Auto-launch

When a Trainee enters a course with OTS activities, an OTS session is immediately auto-launched. This feature aims to reduce any wait-times while the OTS session is being provisioned.

Initial Timeout

To ensure that auto-launched sessions do not continue running needlessly, an Initial Timeout is set. An Initial Timeout allows the Trainee time to complete any prerequisites prior to engaging in OTS activities.

Activity Timeout

Once an OTS activity is started, the Initial Timeout is extended relative to the defined duration of the activity.

Dormant Sessions

Upon completion of an OTS activity, the OTS session is left in a dormant state for subsequent OTS activities. When subsequent OTS activities are started, the dormant session is reused.

When subsequent OTS activities are started, the Trainee may notice that the Human Machine Interface (HMI) screen that they left active in the previous OTS Activity displays. This is expected behavior.

Dormant Session Timeout

Similar to the Initial Timeout, the Dormant Session Timeout ensures that dormant sessions are not left running needlessly. A Dormant Session Timeout is set for one hour to allow the Trainee to complete any prerequisites prior to engaging in the subsequent OTS activities.
