Connect to and run a Trainee's Operator Training Simulator session

You can connect to a Trainee's remote Operator Training Simulator (OTS) session that the Trainee is currently connected to. This allows you to enter the course and monitor the session. You can also directly interact with the session if the activity supports it. See Interact with a Trainee's active Operator Training Simulator training session for more information.

You can connect to a Trainee's remote OTS session using one of the following options:

  • Active Sessions – The Active Sessions count on the Instructor dashboard automatically refreshes to display the current number of active OTS sessions.

  • Course session page – In My learning, you can connect to the Trainee's remote OTS session in the course's session page.

Connect to a Trainee's OTS session through Active Sessions

  1. In the Instructor dashboard, select Active Sessions.

    The Active OTS Sessions page appears and displays a list of OTS sessions that are currently active by one or more Trainees.

  2. (Optional) Add filter conditions to change the OTS sessions list display, and then select Apply filters.

    In the Instructor dashboard, select Active Sessions.

  3. Locate the OTS session entry that you want to connect to, and then select the More () icon at the end of the entry.

    A list of available station applinks appear.

  4. Select the station applink that you want to connect with the OTS session.

    If you are connecting to a Pipeline Competency Training OTS session, then only Operator Station appears as Pipeline Competency Training does not have an Instructor Station.

    The OTS session opens in a new browser tab:

    • The Operator Station applink connects you to a Trainee's session and allows you to view their screen in a view-only mode.

      You can configure the OTS in many different ways. Your session may look different than in these figures.

Connect to a Trainee's OTS session through the course page

  1. In My learning, locate the course under the correct curriculum.

    From the course's tile, select Start Course.

  2. On the course's tile, select Start Course.

    The course's page appears and displays its activities.

  3. Select the category that the Trainee is in, and then locate the activity section.

    A green status indicator displays when an OTS session is in progress.

  4. Select Show active OTS sessions.

    The area expands and shows the users that are currently in the course.

    Select Show active OTS sessions.

  5. Select the station applink to connect with the OTS session.

    If you are connecting to a Pipeline Competency Training OTS session, then only Operator Station appears as Pipeline Competency Training does not have an Instructor Station.

    Configure scenarios in an Instructor Station

    • In the AVEVA Dynamic Simulation session, select Open scenario summary table ().

      The Scenario Summary window opens and you can now configure scenarios.

      Refer to the AVEVA Dynamic Simulation user documentation for more information. You can access the AVEVA Dynamic Simulation documentation by selecting the Help tab.

    Add malfunctions into an Instructor Station

    • In the AVEVA Dynamic Simulation session, select Open malfunction summary table ().

      The Malfunction Summary window opens and you can now add malfunctions.

      In the Dynamic Simulation session, select Open malfunction summary table.

    Introduce a malfunction into a scenario

    1. On the Malfunction Summary window, select the malfunction that you would like to add to the scenario.

      On the Malfunction Summary window, select the malfunction that you would like to add to the scenario.

    2. Select Activate.

      The malfunction is now part of the scenario.
