New/Edit Rule

Use the functionality available from the New/Edit Rule pane of the Naming Rules window to create or edit naming rules details.

The selected name and class fields are populated with the currently selected naming rule.

Note: On initial use, the New Edit Rule window is blank. In order to edit the naming rule, click displayed at the top of the Rules pane.

Naming Part

Select the Naming Part, click to display the Select Attribute window.

The Select Attribute window is populated with the available attributes for selection for the chosen class.

Notes:
The attributes are picked up from AVEVA Data Model. Refer to Attributes for further information.

Distributed attributes or associations cannot be selected during the naming rule definition

Unbuilt/ abstract classes cannot be selected from the class picker

Case variance is not supported on attributes that are used as a part of any naming rule.

Multiple classes and attributes that are common between the domain classes are displayed for inverse associations. For example, Tag Number, CompressorMotorParentSharedAtt and CompressorMotorSharedAtt. The expanded class names can be displayed as tooltips.

Used in Uniqueness

Signifies which naming parts will be used for the generation of a unique counter, during the creation of elements.

Note:
If there is no counter in the naming rule, then this field has no effect.

Required

This field is mandatory for tag creation.

Type

The type of input expected for this naming part.

Note:
If the attribute selected is defined as an Integer or Real in the model, then the Type will always be Numeric.

Digits

Number of digits (or characters) for this naming part.

Fixed

Fix the size of the naming part, for example: exactly two characters.

Writes to

Selects a naming attribute from the list.

Text if Blank

Defines what will be displayed if the field remains blank.

Separator

Select a separator for the naming part, the separator always follows the naming part. The attribute has a drop down list with an example set of values, however a value can be added manually.

Note:
The separator value is always set.

Prefix

The prefix for the naming part (this is always part of the tag, that is the value ignores what the naming parts value is for the tag).

Suffix

The suffix for the naming part (this is always part of the tag).

Add Naming Parts

Adds a naming part to the naming rule.

Add Counter

Adds a counter rule to the naming rule.

Delete Naming Part

Deletes the selected naming part.

Move Naming Part Up

Moves the naming part higher in the order.

Move Naming Part Down

Moves the naming part lower in the order.

Preview

The Preview part of the Naming Rule window displays the currently selected naming rule.
