Install the WebView2 Runtime on a client station

If your project screens include custom widgets, the client station must have the Microsoft WebView2 Runtime. The station may already have it, so check first and install the runtime only if it is missing. This task applies to stations that use the Thin Client or Embedded HMI software to view your project screens. Stations that view your project through Mobile Access do not need the runtime, because custom widgets are HTML5-based screen objects that the web browser displays directly.

You must have Administrator privileges on the computer in order to install software.

To check whether the runtime is already installed:

  1. Open the Registry Editor.

  2. Look for the value pv under
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\Clients\{F3017226-FE2A-4295-8BDF-00C3A9A7E4C5} (64-bit Windows) or
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\Clients\{F3017226-FE2A-4295-8BDF-00C3A9A7E4C5} (32-bit Windows)

    A version number other than 0.0.0.0 means the runtime is installed.

  3. Check the same key under
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\Clients, which is used for a per-user installation.

  4. If the runtime is installed, no further action is needed. If it is not installed, install it as described below.

To install the runtime on a computer with Internet access:

  1. Download the Evergreen Bootstrapper (MicrosoftEdgeWebview2Setup.exe) from
    https://developer.microsoft.com/microsoft-edge/webview2/

  2. Right-click the installer, and then click Run as administrator. To install without prompts, run
    MicrosoftEdgeWebview2Setup.exe /silent /install from an elevated command prompt.

  3. Restart the Viewer

    To install the runtime on a computer without Internet access:

    1. On a computer with Internet access, download the Evergreen Standalone Installer (MicrosoftEdgeWebView2RuntimeInstallerX64.exe or MicrosoftEdgeWebView2RuntimeInstallerX86.exe, matching the client station) from
      https://developer.microsoft.com/microsoft-edge/webview2/

    2. Copy the installer to the client station, over the network or on a portable hard drive.

    3. Run the installer as an administrator. To install without prompts, run it with /silent /install from an elevated command prompt.

    4. Restart the Viewer.
