Temporarily disable reloading thin client screens

A user can disable thin client screen reloading when tags are updated or when changes are made to the project. The screens will reload after the viewer or the project is restarted, allowing the updates to be delayed until a downtime period.

This is an option designed for specific use cases:

  • A thin client can be used to monitor different AVEVA Edge servers with the same project screens and tags (but possibly different tag values because the servers are different machines). When switching between identical screens, the screens can be set not to reload, but the tag values will update normally. This saves the time required to reload the identical screen objects and animations.

  • If changes are being made to the AVEVA Edge server screens or to the tag database while the project is running, screen reloading can be disabled so that normal operation is not interrupted. Then the screens can be reloaded during a more convenient time.

Restarting the secure viewer or restarting the runtime will reload the screens.

To disable thin client server screen reloading:

  1. Open your project file (<project name>.APP) in a text editor.

  2. Locate or create a section at the end of the file named [Preferences].

  3. If you want to disable thin client server screen reloading when making changes to project files (such as screens), create a parameter named AutoReloadAppOnClientsDatabaseChanged and set its value to 0:

    [Preferences]

    AutoReloadAppOnClientsDatabaseChanged=0

    To enable thin client server screen reloading, either remove the parameter or set its value to 1.

  4. If you want to disable thin client server screen reloading when making changes to the project tags database, create a parameter named AutoReloadAppOnClientsDatabaseChanged2 and set its value to 0:

    [Preferences]

    AutoReloadAppOnClientsDatabaseChanged2=0

    To enable thin client server screen reloading, either remove the parameter or set its value to 1.

  5. To disable reloading for either type of change, set both values to 0:

    [Preferences]

    AutoReloadAppOnClientsDatabaseChanged=0

    AutoReloadAppOnClientsDatabaseChanged2=0

    You can toggle either parameter value independently.
