Authentication for the piconfig utility

  • Last UpdatedJan 13, 2023

You can run piconfig using the local Data Archive user name and password or Windows authentication.

Users of the piconfig utility are required to log in by specifying a user name and a password, if you set the Data Archive server tuning parameter CheckUtilityLogin to 1. By default this option is off (set to zero, 0)

Note: If the CheckUtilityLogin tuning parameter is set to 1 (on), then you cannot run the piconfig utility with Windows authentication. Additionally, if explicit logins are disabled on the Data Archive server, the piconfig utility displays an error message stating that the authentication method is disabled by current server policy.

  1. At a command prompt, go to the PI\adm directory.

  2. Depending on your chosen method of authentication, enter one of the following commands to launch the piconfig utility:

    • To authenticate with a user name and password on the local Data Archive server, type:

      piconfig

    • The utility prompts you to enter a valid user name and password to gain access to the database tables.

    • To authenticate using Windows authentication, type:

      piconfig -windows

    • The utility prompts you to enter the node. Enter the host name of your Data Archive computer. The piconfig utility then attempts to start using your current Windows user name and password.
