Audit logging configuration

The Archive and Snapshot Subsystems can be configured to report audit information to the Data Archive message log. This audit logging can be useful for testing and troubleshooting or for other custom monitoring applications, but it is not a sufficient alternative to the PI Audit Database for compliance with regulations such as FDA Title 21 CFR Part 11. Audit logging is independent of the PI Audit Database and does not interfere with its operation.

To monitor the message log, use the SMT Message Log tool (in PI SMT, choose Operation > Message Logs). For details on managing and monitoring the message log, see View message logs.

Note: To view the message logs on Data Archive version 3.4.380 and later, you need read access permissions to the PIMSGSS entry in the Database Security tool in PI SMT (Security > Database Security).
