To extend an unassigned equipment feature to preserve the class URI set at the unassigned component after inserting it into the drawing.
Create a tag element in the Engineering application and check whether the element is assigned with a class name or not.

Once the class name is available to the created element, go to the Diagrams application and get the Engineering element in to Diagrams using compare update as shown in the below picture.

Once the elements are listed, select one to link to the Diagrams database.

After updating it to the database this creates an unassigned element in the explorer.

Open the project explorer and navigate to the unassigned element. Select the unassigned element and select any shape of the same type in the stencil and using Shift + drag and drop the shape in to the canvas. This assigns the selected shape to the unassigned item. Once the shape is assigned a class name, which is set in the Engineering application, it will be available to this shape. If the class name is not set in Engineering, the shape will be assigned with the master shape's class name, that is the selected shape class name is updated.

If the class name set in the Engineering application does not match with the class name set in Diagrams, it displays a warning message in the message log as shown below.
