Configure a mobile PC for data collection

When you use PI Manual Logger Mobile on a mobile PC, you need to configure it for data collection when in disconnected mode.

  1. Create tours on the PI Manual Logger client.

  2. Choose one of the following methods to initialize the mobile device database.

    • Select Mobile Devices > Initialize Device Database.

    • Select Mobile Devices > Common Tasks > Initialize Device Database.

  3. In the Device Initialization window, click Start.

    The output includes the line Running in disconnected mode to file:file path because no mobile device is connected.

  4. Scroll up and make a note of the file path where the device database has been created.

  5. Copy PimlMobile.sdf to a desired location on the computer that is running PI Manual Logger PC.

  6. Select Mobile Devices > Mobile Database Location Setup.

  7. Click .

    1. In the Browse for Folder window, navigate to the folder where you copied (PimlMobile.sdf).

    2. Select the folder and click Ok.

    The Mobile Database Location Setup window is updated to display the full path to the mobile database file.

  8. Click and move the Load from file at your selected folder\PimlMobile.sdf entry to the top of the list.

  9. To save the file location and new priority setting, click .

  10. Open the Device Data Transfer window in PI Manual Logger and transfer the tours to the database file from the above steps.

  11. Copy the file specified in step 5 to the Mobile PC. The file is located in the directory specified in the pimlmobile.xml file.

    The default location is \Program Files\PIPC\PimlMobile\.

When you open PI Manual Logger Mobile on your mobile PC, it looks similar to how it appears on a cradled Windows Mobile device.
