PI Manual Logger Web prerequisites

  • Last UpdatedNov 22, 2022
  • 2 minute read

Verify that your systems meet the requirements listed in this section before installing PI Manual Logger Web.

Web Application Server

  • Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2016, or Windows Server 2019

  • Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 8 or above

  • Microsoft ASP.NET 4.6 for IIS

  • Windows Authentication (recommended)

Offline requirements

PI Manual Logger Web now supports service workers in Microsoft Edge 44.0 or greater, Google Chrome 73.0 or greater, Mozilla Firefox 66.0 or greater, and Apple Safari 12.0 or greater. In order to work offline in these browsers, the following is required:

  • Secure connection via SSL (HTTPS)

  • Secure trusted SSL certificate

Note: These restrictions do not apply to Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 as it still uses application cache.

Client supported browsers

To use the web application, a browser that supports HTML5 is required. JavaScript must be enabled in the browser.

PI Manual Logger Web 2017 R2 uses IndexedDB as the new storage system that allows storage of much larger data sets for offline data collection.

Note: Caveats and limitations include:

  • Do not run in incognito or private mode in any browser due to its limited storage quota limit.

  • Do not enable guest browsing in Google Chrome due to its limited storage quota limit.

  • If a single tour is larger than 130 MB in data, it cannot be stored in IndexedDB.

Desktop

  • Microsoft Edge 42.0 or greater

Note: Microsoft Edge 44.0 or greater is required for working in offline mode.

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 11.0 or greater

  • Google Chrome 73.0 or greater

  • Mozilla Firefox 66.0 or greater

  • Apple Safari 12.0 or greater on Apple Mac

Devices

Any modern device with a browser that supports HTML5 features, for example:

  • Apple iOS 12.1.4 or greater (iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch)

  • Android 5.1.1 or greater (tablets and phones)

  • Windows tablets (Slate PC, Surface tablet, and so on)

Client memory requirements for larger data sets

PI System

With the increased storage with IndexedDB, PI Manual Logger Web 2017 R2 can store much more data than previous versions. There are, however, client memory limitations that should be followed on each device running the application. If the client does not have the required amount of free RAM, the application may crash and require a browser refresh.

Below is a chart that displays the free RAM requirements and recommended total RAM a device should have. The calculations used are approximate. Different devices consume different levels of memory based upon operating system, application use, etc. The values provided are provided as guidelines and may NOT be exact.
