Configure IIS in Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, and 2016

You may need to configure IIS in Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2, 2012 and 2016.

Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. If the IIS Manager is not displayed, it needs to be added via the Server Manager.

In Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2, follow these steps.

Select Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools.

If IIS needs to be added, as Administrator, open Server Manager and click Add Roles.

In Windows Server 2012 and 2016, follow these steps.

Select Server Manager > IIS.

If IIS needs to be added, select Server Manager > Local Server > ROLES AND FEATURES.

From the Tasks list, select Add Roles and Features.

Verify ASP.NET is installed by using the Server Manager. If the default settings were used during the IIS installation, ASP.NET may not have been installed.

In Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2, navigate to Roles > Web Server (IIS), and to Role ServicesApplication Development. If ASP.NET is not installed, follow these steps.

Select Add Role Services.

Select the ASP.NET check box under Application Development.

Follow the Add Role Services wizard.

In Windows Server 2012 and 2016, click Server Manager > IIS. Expand the ROLES AND FEATURES list. If ASP.NET 3.5 is not in the list, follow these steps.

Select Add Roles and Features from the Tasks list.

Continue through the Add Roles and Features wizard until you get to the Server Roles page.

Navigate to Web Server (IIS) > Web Server > Application Development.

Select the ASP.NET 3.5 check box and continue through the wizard.

Choose one of the following actions to open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager in Server Manager.

In Windows Server 2008 R2, navigate to Roles > Web Server (IIS) > Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager and select the server in the Connections pane.

In Windows Server 2012 and 2016, follow these steps.

Select IIS.

Select the server in the SERVERS section.

Right-click and select Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.

Select the server in the Connections pane.

Click Sites > Default Web Site.

If the PI Manual Logger Web Services Web Application was not created for you during the installation process, follow these steps:

Right-click Default Web Site and select New > Add Application.

Provide the information for adding a Web Application, such as an Alias (for example, PimlWebServices), the physical path to the installation folder, and the Application Pool.

After the Web Application creation is complete, select the PI Manual Logger Web Services (for example, PimlWebServices) to view the different configuration areas.

Verify the settings for the PI Manual Logger Web Services. Take special note of the Authentication and Handler Mappings areas.

Open the Application Pools, select the Application Pool that is associated with PI Manual Logger Web Services, and configure the settings appropriately for your environment. OSIsoft recommends you refer to the Microsoft IIS documentation.
Note: The .NET Framework version must be 2.0 (.NET Framework v2.0.50727). For 64-bit operating systems, PI Manual Logger Web Services must be configured as a 32-bit application.
If you need to change the Application Pool associated with PI Manual Logger Web Services, right-click PimlWebServices and select Manage Application > Advanced Settings.
