Import a tour

You can import a tour that has been exported from PI Manual Logger or created in your favorite XML editing tool, as long as the structure adheres to the OSIsoft.PIML.xsd schema file, which is available in the \PIPC\PIMLWindows folder. You can also review a sample import file, Sample PIML Tour Import.xml in the \PIPC\PIMLWindows\Samples folder.

When you import a tour to update a tour definition, a backup of the tour definition prior to the update is automatically exported. This backup is accompanied by a log file, which is generated in case any mistakes are made, so you can revert back to the previous version if needed. The backup and log files use the following naming conventions and are created in the folder in which the XML import file resides:

  • <Import File Name>_BACKUP_Tour-<Tour Name>_v<Tour Version #>_<Timestamp>.xml

  • <Import File Name>_LOG _Tour-<Tour Name>_v<Tour Version #>_<Timestamp>.txt

Note: In order to import tour configurations users must belong to the PIML Administrative group as defined in the Security Settings tab available from the Tools > Global Options menu command. When creating new tour configurations using an XML file, the Tour element must exist in the XML file.

  1. In PI Manual Logger, choose one of the following actions:

    • Select Tours > Import Tours (from file).

    • Press the F8 function key.

    • Select Tours > Tour List (Data Definition), and then click Import.

  2. In the Import File text box of the Import Tour Definitions window, choose one of the following actions:

    • Enter the XML file that contains the Tour configuration data.

    • Click to search for a file. In the Please select a tour definition file window, navigate to the directory that contains the tour data XML file, select it and click Open.

  3. In the Import Tour Definitions window, click OK.

OSIsoft recommends that after importing a tour configuration, you select PIML > PI Tags and Digital States and then click and .
