Install PIML Mobile on Windows Mobile 2003 or Windows Mobile 5

If you are using a non-volatile memory card, be sure you understand the information about such cards, as described in Non-volatile memory cards.

Follow these instructions to install PIML Mobile on a Windows Mobile 2003 or Windows Mobile 5 device.

Note: If you see the following message during installation: The program you have installed may not display properly because it was designed for a previous version of Windows Mobile software, ignore the message and complete the installation.

If you see a message during installation indicating that the publisher cannot be verified, ignore the message. Click OK and complete the installation.

1. Start the PI Manual Logger Mobile setup program.

2. In the Mobile Device Type Selection window, select one of the following device types and click Next:

   • Windows Mobile 2003

   • Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition

   • Windows Mobile 5.0

3. Click Next again to start the installation.

4. The Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 2.0 and Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5 SP2 installers start after you choose where to install device CAB (Cabinet) files. Be sure to monitor installation messages carefully and respond accordingly.

   • Windows Mobile 2003: Installation messages are displayed on the PC desktop.

   • Windows Mobile 5.0: Installation messages for a Windows Mobile 5.0 device are displayed on the device itself.

   Note: During installation for Windows Mobile 5, if you receive a request to restart the device, tap Cancel on the device and do not restart it.

5. Windows Mobile 5.0 only. When the SQL Server installation is finished, tap ok on the device before you click OK in the installation message on the PC. Otherwise PI Manual Logger Mobile might not be installed on the device even though installation appears to proceed normally.

6. In the PI Manual Logger Mobile Installer, choose one of the following options:

   • Install the application in the default location (\Program Files\pipc\PimlMobile) on the device.

   • Install on a non-volatile memory card.

     Note: Even if you install PI Manual Logger Mobile in a non-volatile memory location, you must completely reinstall the .NET Compact Framework and SQL Server Compact Edition runtime in case of battery loss (except on Windows Mobile 6.0). This is because some required runtime files are always installed in the \Windows RAM folder, regardless of which location you choose during installation.
