Configure PI Manual Logger Windows Services when you want a scheduled, automatic way of updating PI Manual Logger cached data: this includes tag attributes, values, digital states, in addition to automatic sending of future data. Only one instance of PI Manual Logger Windows Services should be running per PI Manual Logger database.
-
Open the Windows Computer Management utility to configure PI Manual Logger Windows Services.
-
Right-click PI Manual Logger Windows Services and select Properties.
-
In the PI Manual Logger Windows Services Properties window, click the Log On tab.
-
Specify the security context for the services to run. By default, the services run under the Local System account. For best results, click This account and use a more secure account, such as the Network Service account, to run PI Manual Logger Windows Services.
Note: Make sure that the log on account used for PI Manual Logger Windows Services has db_datareader and db_datawriter database role membership to the PI Manual Logger SQL Server database, and read/write permissions on the Data Archive for both point and data security for all PI Manual Logger tags.
-
Click OK to save your changes and close the PI Manual Logger Windows Services Properties window.
-
Optional. By default, PI Manual Logger Windows Services are scheduled to synchronize tour data with the target PI Data Archive every six hours and are configurable to a minimum of one hour. To change the default time, edit the PulsorTime setting value in the PimlServiceSettings.xml file located in the PIPC\PimlWindows folder. If you make any changes to the PulsorTime setting, restart PI Manual Logger Windows Services.
-
-
Use the Windows Event Log viewer to check the status of PI Manual Logger Windows Services.
If all is configured correctly (SQL Server Connection, SQL Server Security, and PI Data Archive Security for PI Manual Logger Windows Services), and it is time to run the tasks, you see several messages in the Windows Application Event Log with the starting message being ‘' and the ending message being ‘’ with no error messages on any steps in between.
When PI Manual Logger Windows Services run, a message is also logged in PI Manual Logger Message Log and can be viewed from the PIML > Message Log menu. This can be useful to verify only one computer is running PI Manual Logger Windows Services.
Note: If you are running PI Manual Logger Windows Services on a system where Manual Logger PC is not installed, you must configure the SQL Server database connection information. See Configure SQL Server connection information.
If you have multiple PI Manual Logger SQL Server databases, you must install PI Manual Logger Windows Services on separate systems and configure the SQL Server connection on each system to a different database. You cannot run multiple instances of PI Manual Logger Windows Services on the same system.
