Each user who accesses PI Manual Logger Web needs an individual Windows user account in PI Manual Logger PC client. You cannot use Windows groups, such as local, or Active Directory groups, to grant access to tours.

You need to set up Windows user accounts for users who need to access PI Manual Logger Web in a browser.

  1. Open the PI Manual Logger PC client.

  2. Select PIML > Manage User Database.

  3. In the Users pane of the New User window, click .

See User database management for more details on managing users and groups in PI Manual Logger.

Note: If ASP.NET Impersonation is not enabled, the web application user will connect to the PI Manual Logger database as the Windows Identity associated with the PimlWebServiceAppPool, which defaults to the built-in security principal, NetworkService. In such circumstances, you need to create a User Name of NetworkService (you can also define it as NETWORK SERVICE) and ensure that no Domain Name is specified. Then assign this user to all groups that will be running tours from PI Manual Logger Web. Please refer to Microsoft documentation for more details about built-in security principals (for example, How Security Principals Work).

  4. In the User Name field, enter the Windows User Name for the user.

  5. In the Password field, enter a strong password up to 128 alphanumeric and non-alphanumeric characters. Control characters are not supported.

Note: This password is distinct from the user's Windows password.

    • The user will enter this password to log on to PI Manual Logger PC client, PI Manual Logger Mobile 2012, and PI Manual Logger MobilePC.

    • The user will enter their Windows password to log on to PI Manual Logger Web.

  6. In the Confirm Password field, re-enter the PI Manual Logger application password.

  7. Select the Use Windows credentials (only for PI Manual Logger Web) check box.

  8. Click OK in response to the Windows User Name Tip.

  9. In the Domain Name field, PI Manual Logger displays a valid domain that the application has detected on the network (<domain>.int).

  10. Click OK to save.

PI Manual Logger validates that the Windows User Name is valid for the domain. If you get a Validation Error message, start over and enter the correct Windows User Name.

  11. Associate the newly created users with PI Manual Logger Permission Groups. In the Permission Groups pane, double-click the Group Name to which you want to add them.

  12. In the Group Properties window, select the User Membership tab.

    1. Click Add… to view the complete user list.

    2. In the Select User(s) window, select the check box beside each user who needs to be associated with the selected group.

    3. Click OK to associate the users.

    4. Click OK to exit the Group Properties window.

The Group Memberships list in the Users pane is updated for each user that you associated with the group.

Note: Any PI Manual Logger Application user in the PI Manual Logger Administrative Group will have authorization to all tours.
