Guidelines for copying displays or changing data sources

Guidelines for copying displays or changing data sources

Note the following guidelines when using the AVEVA PI Vision Display Utility to copy displays or change data sources:

  • The Display Utility cannot copy displays from source servers prior to version 2019. Displays that you copy (from a server that is version 2019 or later) may be copied only to either (1) a file or (2) a PI Vision server that is the same version as the Display Utility.

  • If the source server is a version prior to 2021, the Display Utility is not able to copy the selected displays' folder structure on to the target server.

  • When copying displays that contain hyperlinks from one AVEVA PI Vision server to another, you must copy all the linked displays together. Otherwise, the hyperlinks will not work on the destination server.

  • When exporting displays that contain hyperlinks to the PDIX file format, and importing those files into a different AVEVA PI Vision server, the hyperlinks between displays will be persisted, even if the source and destination displays are not imported during the same operation.

  • Any change to the PI AF hierarchy or name will break the data connection for existing displays. Only changes to the PI AF server or PI AF database names, as supported by the AVEVA PI Vision Display Utility, are possible without needing to reassign PI AF data items.

  • When migrating a Data Archive server, all tag name changes on the Data Archive server should be done after the displays that are using that server have been copied with the AVEVA PI Vision Display Utility.

  • To change data sources for a display, the display must have been saved in PI Coresight 2016 or later. To change data sources for a display created in an earlier version, you must first modify and save the display in PI Coresight 2016 or later. Note: PI Coresight was renamed to PI Vision in March 2017.
