This section describes how to install PI Vision.

This installation process consists of five high-level phases. Some of the phases may not apply depending on your environment. The steps to complete each of the phases are detailed in the subsequent sections of this chapter. The phases are as follows:

  1. Prepare the application server

Before installing AVEVA PI Vision on a server, you first prepare the application server by opening the required ports, downloading the installation kit and other required software, and enabling server manager roles and features.

  2. Create a service account and set up permissions

Once the application server is prepared, you create a service account (domain account) for AVEVA PI Vision. After creating a service account, you grant the service account access permissions to the Microsoft SQL Server, PI Data Archive servers, and PI AF servers.

Skip this phase if installing in an environment whose end users only use OpenID Connect authentication and you plan to select the authentication option OpenID Connect with Process Identity Client ID for the PI Vision Connection to PI Data Archive and AF Servers in the security settings. (This is the only valid option if your PI Vision server is not installed on a domain.)

  3. Run the installation kit

When you run the install kit, it installs all the required software components for AVEVA PI Vision. The installation kit has a series of prompts that ask you to specify configuration information for the PI AF server.

  4. Configure PI Vision after installation

Now you are ready to configure AVEVA PI Vision on the AVEVA PI Vision's administration website. The post-installation configuration involves creating the AVEVA PI Vision database, then setting up access to PI Data Archive servers and PI AF servers.

  5. Set up Kerberos delegation

The last phase of the installation focuses on setting up PI Data Archive server authentication for AVEVA PI Vision by enabling Kerberos delegation. Kerberos delegation is a network authentication protocol that allows users in a distributed application environment to securely access remote data sources.

Skip this phase if installing in an environment whose end users only use OpenID Connect authentication.
