AVEVA™ PI Vision™

Establish folders

  • Last UpdatedApr 07, 2025
  • 2 minute read

By default, AVEVA PI Vision stores displays in the Home folder. Administrators can create other folders to organize displays. Administrators can give users read access and write access to a folder.

After installing AVEVA PI Vision, an administrator must create the folders necessary to organize displays and grant appropriate access to those folders. For example, you might create folders to store officially published displays and provide read-access to those who need to view those displays.

  1. From the left pane on the home page, select the parent folder:

    • Select Home to create a folder under the Home folder.

    • Select right arrow to drill into another folder under the Home folder.

  2. Select Add New PI Vision Folder Add folder icon and then type the name of the new folder.

AVEVA PI Vision creates the subfolder.

  3. Select Edit folder settings Edit folder settings to open the Folder Settings window.

In the left column, the window lists PI AF identities that are currently not assigned any permission. The right column lists identities that can access the folder and the permission level assigned to those identities.

  4. For each identity, set the desired access for the folder. For details about permissions, see Set folder permissions.

Examples

Suppose your organization has analysts who create displays for executives in the generation and distribution business units. You might create two folders, Generation and Distribution, that store the final displays for the executives, and you might create another folder, Drafts, where analysts work on displays before releasing to executives. You might give analysts read and write access to all the folders, enabling them to create displays in the Drafts folder and move them to the Generation or Distribution folder. You might give the executives read access to the Generation and Distribution folders, enabling them to view displays in these folders.

Because analysts have write access to the Drafts folder, they can create subfolders under that folder to organize their draft displays.
