Review the installation recommendations and requirements for AVEVA PI Vision on the Pre-install checklist.
If you are running PI Coresight 2015 (2.1.0.2) or later, you can upgrade directly to the latest version of AVEVA PI Vision. If you are running a version earlier than PI Coresight 2015, you must first perform an intermediary upgrade to PI Vision 2020 Patch 1, and then upgrade to that latest version of AVEVA PI Vision.
To upgrade AVEVA PI Vision, run the AVEVA PI Vision setup program, which updates AVEVA PI Vision. Then, configure the application pool accounts and upgrade the AVEVA PI Vision database, if necessary.
Note: If you no longer use PI Web API, you should uninstall it.
-
Log on to the application server as a system administrator, using a domain user account that belongs to the local Administrators group.
-
Verify that all required roles and features are installed.
For a list of required roles and features, see Prepare the PI Vision application server computer.
-
Download the new AVEVA PI Vision installation kit from the AVEVA Customer Portal Products page.
-
Right-click the AVEVA PI Vision setup executable and then select Run as Administrator to launch the installation wizard.
-
If necessary, upgrade the AVEVA PI Vision database:
-
If the installation program automatically upgraded AVEVA PI Vision database, no additional work is necessary.
-
If the installation did not successfully upgrade the database, you must manually upgrade it after the installation kit finishes. For details, see Create or upgrade the PI Vision database.
Note: If you are unable to manage displays with the AVEVA PI Vision Display Utility, the AVEVA PI Vision Utility application pool may not be configured to run under the same service account as the Admin and Service application pools. For additional information, see Configure PI Vision application pools to use the PI Vision service account.
Note: You have the option to run when you upgrade AVEVA PI Vision or at a later date. patches existing AVEVA PI Vision displays so that elements and attributes renamed or moved on a PI AF server automatically update if the display is newly opened or actively running. For more information, see Patch displays with PIVisionPatchDisplayAFids. Running during upgrade may fail if upgrading from PI Coresight 2016 R2 or earlier. In this case, reboot the server after upgrade and run again manually.
