AVEVA™ PI Vision™

Set multi-state color defaults

  • Last UpdatedNov 24, 2025

On the AVEVA PI Vision Administration website, the Display Defaults page lets you set the default colors that are applied for multi-state behaviors.

You can select a color for the Bad Data state and choose 18 additional colors, which are applied to a display's other states based on the order that those colors appear on the Display Defaults page. If you manually add states for a display's multi-state behaviors, as you add states the colors are applied to those states in the order that they appear on the Display Defaults page. For predefined states, the color that appears first on the Display Defaults page is applied to the state that is associated with the lowest numeric value, then the remaining colors are applied to the other states sequentially, based on the order that the colors appear on the Display Defaults page and the numeric values that are associated with those states. For example, if a symbol's data has limit attribute traits defined in PI AF such as LoLo, Lo, Hi, and HiHi, then the colors defined on the Display Defaults page are applied to those states sequentially.

Keep in mind that for each symbol's multi-state behaviors you can customize the colors as desired, overriding the default colors that are specified on the Display Defaults page.

Updating the default multi-state colors does not change the colors used in existing multi-state symbols.

  1. Browse to the AVEVA PI Vision Administration website.

  2. In the menu, select Display Defaults.

  3. Select the Multi-State Colors tab.

  4. To specify the default color for the "Bad Data" state, select the Bad Data color chip and then do one of the following:

    • Enter the CSS name in the box, for example, red.

    • Enter the hex color value in the box, for example, #ff0000.

    • Enter the RGB value in the box, for example, rgb(255, 0, 0).

    • Select the color rectangle to use your web browser color picker.

The Bad Data color chip updates to the specified color.

  5. For each color in the default palette, select the color chip and then do one of the following:

    • Enter the CSS name in the box, for example, green.

    • Enter the hex color value in the box, for example, #008000.

    • Enter the RGB value in the box, for example, rgb(8, 128, 0).

    • Select the color rectangle to use your web browser color picker.

The selected color chip updates to the specified color.

  6. When you have finished specifying default colors, select Save.

The updated defaults are loaded when AVEVA PI Vision is opened in a browser and when an open browser is refreshed.
