User settings allow you to set options that apply only to you. Other users are not impacted by any User Settings that you select. Follow the steps below to open the User Settings window and set the options.

  1. Select your user name in the toolbar.

  2. Select User Settings.

  3. If you want tooltips to appear when you hover over the data that is shown on symbols throughout AVEVA PI Vision, select Show tooltips on symbols. Tooltips provide details about the data that you hover on, such as the name of the data item, the recorded value, and the date and time of the recorded value. You may want to unselect this option if, for example, you find tooltips to be a nuisance as they pop up and cover parts of your displays.

Note: This option does not affect the tooltips that appear for links. When you hover over a link, a tooltip providing information about that link's destination always appears, regardless of whether you select Show tooltips on symbols.

  4. If you selected Show tooltips on symbols, there are additional options that affect what information is included in the tooltips that appear on symbols:

Show PI Point path in tooltips for PI Point data reference attributes - If you select this option, when you hover over data for a PI AF attribute that references a PI point, the path to the underlying PI point appears in the tooltip. This option can be helpful to let you quickly review what PI point is referenced by an attribute without checking PI System Explorer. This option does not affect the tooltips that appear for data items that are not PI AF attributes referencing PI points.

Show data item description in tooltips - If you select this option, when you hover over data in a symbol, the description for that data item appears in the tooltip. For most data items, the description that appears in the tooltip originates from the data item's description that exists in PI System Explorer. However, the descriptions for calculations are managed directly in AVEVA PI Vision.

Note: When Show data item description in tooltips is selected, if a description does not exist in PI System Explorer for a PI AF attribute that references a PI point, then the tooltip shows the description of the underlying PI point.

  5. Select Save.
