AVEVA PI Vision’s Assets pane shows a navigation tree to help you visualize your data hierarchy. You can use the navigation tree to find assets and their attributes by drilling down through the data hierarchy.
-
In the Assets pane, select the check boxes next to the PI AF databases or Data Archive servers that you would like to explore.
Click the arrow
to begin navigating to your assets. As you drill down to your assets, you can retrace
your steps by clicking the back arrow,
. Click Home to return to the list of your PI AF databases and Data Archive servers.
If an asset has child attributes, they will be displayed in the Attributes pane.
-
Once you find the data item you want to visualize, choose a symbol type from the Symbol Gallery. You can choose to see your data as a trend, a value, a table, a vertical, horizontal, or radial gauge, an XY plot, or an asset comparison table. See Use symbols to visualize data for additional details.

-
Click the data item and drag it from the Assets or Attributes panes onto the display. You can drag either the parent asset, which automatically adds all of its child attributes to the display, or drag only an individual attribute from the Attributes pane. Assets without attributes cannot be dragged.
To drag multiple data items, hold down the CTRL key, select the data items, and drag them onto the display. For trends and tables, and XY plots, multiple data items will be combined into a single symbol.
-
To create another symbol using a different symbol type, select another symbol type from the Symbol Gallery and drag a new data item onto the display.
Advanced search
When you navigate to a Data Archive server, advanced search options are available.

You may search by Name, Descriptor, or one or more Advanced Search Criteria fields. Note the following about searching by these fields:
-
If you enter criteria in multiple fields, the search only returns results that match all of the criteria you entered; results that match only one field will not be returned.
-
For Name and Descriptor, results include any words that begin with the entered term. For the Advanced Search Criteria fields, only exact matches are returned unless a wildcard character (*) is used.
Perform a search with the Advanced Search Criteria fields

Select the desired attribute from the dropdown and enter the value to search for. The value field may be free text entry or a dropdown, depending on the selected attribute.
-
