Client authentication is the process by which a client application (or client) securely proves its identity to CONNECT. This is essential because it confirms that the client application or service accessing CONNECT is authorized and trusted.

Client authentication and user authentication are separate processes:

• Client authentication is the process by which a software application or service proves its identity to another application or service.

• User authentication is the process by which an individual user proves their identity to a system.
